Preparing for medical calamities

At the request of the Netherlands Federation of University medical centers (NFU) and the Dutch Hospital Association (NVZ) we helped organize and moderated a conference for hospital managers on how best to prepare for ‘calamities’ — an unforeseen event related to quality of care because of which patients or clients have suffered serious consequences or even death.

Using an ‘avalanche’ as a metaphor, we created and showed a video on how a lack of proper internal procedures and preparation may cause pressure to build up within the hospital organization–pressure that might cause an uncontrollable avalanche of negative news when a calamity hits the news.

We helped top show how such events might affect almost any hospital by inviting several hospital managers to share their experiences and best practices.
